Non-accessible Content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).
  • The focus order of some links in the Carbonate Petrography Atlas does not always correspond to the logical ordering of the content. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.3 (focus order)
  • Some pages may contain skipped heading levels. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 (info and relationships)
  • Some non-HTML documents, such as PDF documents, may not be fully accessible. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 4.1.2 (name, role, value)

What we're doing to improve accessibility

The University of Manchester is committed to improving digital inclusion, ensuring that everyone has equitable access to information, technology, resources, and opportunities for learning and engagement, regardless of ability. We are undertaking a program of activity working with our Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Division and Disability Advisory and Support Service to improve digital experiences for users with disabilities.

The content of the site is currently being reviewed and updated. We are working to address non-compliances with the accessibility regulations as part of this process. Additional tools have been added to help content editors create accessible sites. We currently aim to complete this process by July 2026.
